You’ve seen a lot of videos of Kentucky Derby contender Mendelssohn in recent days, but let’s be honest here. You’ve never seen a video of Mendelssohn quite this great! Here he is in all of his glory, showing off over Churchill Downs’s dirt track the morning he was released from quarantine. The son of Scat Daddy went around with his Ballydoyle posse, hooting and hollering to make sure every single soul on the grounds knew he was out and about. Trainer Aidan O’Brien watched from the sidelines as the colt stretched his legs for the very first time and was not surprised by his behavior. Mendelssohn drew quite the crowd, including the likes of Hall of Fame trainers Bob Baffert (trainer of Justify) and D. Wayne Lukas.
Meteorologists are predicting Saturday’s 144th Kentucky Derby will see some scattered showers, but warn that the storm front that is expected to arrive Friday may shift to Saturday. If that occurs, be prepared for one very wet edition of the Run for the Roses!
