Born and raised in Venezuela, Javier Castellano grew up in a thoroughbred racing family where his father and uncle were both jockeys. He began his riding career in 1996 and moved to the United States in 1997 to further his opportunities as a jockey. Relocating to New York in 2001, Castellano was able to pick up rides for renowned trainer Todd Pletcher. In 2013 he received the Eclipse Award for Outstanding Jockey and is currently the top earning jockey in the nation.
