Hanna Powers – An Introduction
By: Hanna Powers
I am quite certain that I was born with the horse bug and that might help explain a great deal about me. Like many of you, my connection to horses came early and has never waned. I came up through the ranks starting at an “up down” lesson barn with dreams of owning my own pony one day. That dream came true and I ventured into the hunter show world on a local circuit. I was a short stirrup rider to be reckoned with! Not long after, I found my way into the rated horse show world, and now I have moved into the jumper ring. I’ve also been lucky to ride as part of a team on my school’s IEA Varsity squad. I have been fortunate to experience horse showing at some of our country’s top equestrian events. have worked with incredible horse people along the way who have paved my path with knowledge, insight and experience. I have loved every minute, at every stage in this sport.
As I head into my senior year of high school, this winter I will be completing an internship in Florida and dropping in from time to time to share with my kindred barn spirits tidbits that I find along the way. The winter circuits are unique and are a departure from the normal equestrian path. hey provide the backdrop for some of the very best riding and a glimpse of what is next for our sport. These circuits build an excitement and a sense of expectation that should be shared with all enthusiasts whether you ride there or not.
I have learned to accept the good, the bad and the very strange about our sport. I have come to have an endearing, almost protective perspective of the cast of characters I’ve come to know along the way, both horses and humans alike.
I look forward to sharing with you what promises to be a very great experience!
