TORONTO, ON., Nov. 11, 2015 – Olympian Belinda Trussell of Stouffville, Ont., claimed victory last night in The Royal Invitational Dressage Cup, sponsored by Butternut Ridge.

Aboard her 15 year old Saxson gelding, owned by Robyn Eames and Mark Trussell, Belinda Scored a 73.3% for her performance. “I wasn’t sure how he would handle the atmosphere, but he was great! I’m super happy!” During her morning training session the 15-year-old German-bred gelding by Antaeus x Melit, was freaked out by the heavy horses, but managed to do just fine in the ring. “I’m thrilled,” Belinda added. “This is such a big confidence builder going into an Olympic qualifying year.”

Belinda and Anton have previously represented Canada at the World Equestrian Games and Pan American Games. This year, in Toronto, she was part of the silver medal winning team.

To prepare for The Royal Belinda does as much as possible to emulate the environment which includes playing loud music in her indoor and a track of applause which can on occasion unsettle her equine partner, Anton. The dressage rider enjoys competing at The Royal, stating, it’s a very festive place where all disciplines come together.

Belinda Trussell absolutely loves her horse, whom she credits has an extremely kind and generous temperament and a heart of gold. “He loves to compete and loves horseshows.”

When asked what she believes has been her biggest success, she commented, “I have to say it`s been training [Anton], I love him and am grateful he’s in my life.” The next goal for this partnership is to earn a spot on the Canadian Olympic team to represent Canada at the Olympic Games in Rio.

Born in Sydney, Australia, Belinda traveled around the world during her childhood. She began riding when she lived in the Philippines. She chose the sport of dressage as she shared a horse with her sister that did not wish to jump. Her advice to young, up and coming riders: “Love your horse, take time to build a relationship, and always dream big.”
