Despite this race having a storied history which traces back to 1955, no trainer has won more than two editions of the G2 Canadian Stakes. At first glance, Chad Brown once again appears to have a race for the female turf runners at his mercy, but there is still value to be had despite his pair of mares being sure to go off at short prices.

#5 NEW MONEY HONEY (Medaglia d’Oro – Weekend Whim, by Distorted Humor)

Running Style: Mid-pack
Trainer: Chad Brown
Jockey: Javier Castellano
Owner: e Five Racing Thoroughbreds

Either of the Chad Brown duo winning this race wouldn’t surprise, but New Money Honey figures to be the better price of the two so we’ll put her on top. A G1 winner at three-years-old, she perhaps hasn’t trained on this season, but she hasn’t been too far off of her best either. The allowance victory off of the long layoff wasn’t pretty, but she was able to get the job done and when stepped up against her stablemate Sistercharlie — the best female turf horse in America — she was on 2 ½ lengths behind at the finish.

#4 NIIGON’S ECLISPSE (Niigon – Eclipse Bay, by Hennessy)

Running Style: Leader
Trainer: Rachel Halden
Jockey: Gary Boulanger
Owner: Chiefswood Stable

Niigon’s Eclipse’s front-end speed is a valuable asset in these sorts of turf races that at times can be run at farcical tempos even if there is quite a bit of early speed projected on paper. The latter looks likely here, but if she gets an uncontested lead even at a quick tempo she could take them a long way. Her exceptional record of 13:4-6-3 over the local lawn only adds to the appeal.

#1 DARING DUCHESS (Arch – A True Pussycat, by Yes It’s True)

Running Style: Closer
Trainer: Mike Maker
Jockey: Rafael Hernandez
Owner: Kenneth & Sarah Ramsey

She’s been up on the pace in much longer races, but over this distance she’ll likely come from well out of it. That might not be the worst play to be, however, with there being quite a bit of early speed in this field on paper. Not to mention, her recent races over further should ensure that she finds the line strongly today on the cutback.

#3 INFLEXIBILITY (Scat Daddy – Halo’s Verse, by Unbridled’s Song)

Running Style: Mid-pack
Trainer: Chad Brown
Jockey: Jose Ortiz
Owner: Klaravich Stables & William H. Lawrence

Half a length ahead of stablemate New Money Honey in the Diana, Inflexibility is likely to be the favored between the two Chad Brown mares entered in this contest. She’s yet another, however, who tends to go off at very short prices and doesn’t win nearly enough to justify taking so much money time in and time out.

#8 HALLIE BELLE (Medaglia d’Oro – Charity Belle, by Empire Maker)

Running Style: Mid-pack
Trainer: Michael Stidham
Jockey: Eurico Rosa Da Silva
Owner: Godolphin

Hallie Belle took a step forward when defeating Hawksmoor at Laurel and she’s only taken further strides since. Her third place finish in the G3 Modesty was outstanding and she wasn’t disgraced in the G2 Yellow Ribbon either. If anything, she’s a bit one-paced so the step up in distance should suit.
