Accidental contact between horses running in close quarters is expected to occur from time to time. That was not the case in this year’s running of the Gr.2 San Felipe when Bolt d’Oro’s jockey, Javier Castellano (green cap), intentionally drove him into McKinzie rounding the final turn. It is one thing to try and intimidate your foe by running up alongside and looking them in the eye, but physically crashing into them to get an edge is unsportsmanlike. To watch McKinzie come back from the blow was inspiring. To watch the Santa Anita stewards DQ him, put up Bolt d’Oro and claim what occurred at the end of the race weighed more was utterly disgraceful, and racing fans were livid… MORE DERBY PREP HIGHLIGHTS
