Untapable: Heavy Favorite Going Into 2014 Mother Goose Stakes
With 10 races on the card, Saturday, June 28th, is looking to be an action packed day at Belmont Park. One of the highlights of the day is the Mother Goose Stakes (Grade 1) – a 1-1/16 mile race on the dirt for 3-year-old fillies – and this years Longines Kentucky Oaks winner, Untapable, is ready to take on the girls.
The daughter of Tapit and Funhouse is coming off of a two month mini vacation since her victory in the Kentucky Oaks this past May, her third consecutive win since February 22nd, 2014. Normally ridden by Rosie Napravnik – unfortunately out of commission due to a shoulder injury – the 3-year-old filly will have John R Velazquez in the irons guiding her this Saturday at Belmont Park.
Although never having raced against the 5 fillies entered in Saturday’s race, the 1-1/16 mile seems to be a favored distance for Untapable, who previously dominated the March 29th Fair Grounds Oaks (G2) and February 22nd Rachel Alexandra Stakes (G3) winning by 7-3/4 and 9-1/2 lengths, respectively. She remains the heavy favorite with odds of 1-5.
