(Turn-to – Nothirdchance, by Blue Swords)
Bred in Kentucky by Bieber-Jacobs Stables, Isadore Bieber and Hirsch Jacobs, Hail to Reason was a bay horse standing approximately 16.1h. During his racing career, he was named 1960 Champion Two-Year-Old Colt after running 18 races in 9 months, winning 9, including 7 stakes races, and set two track records – one at Aqueduct for 5 furlongs and the second at Saratoga for 6 1/2 furlongs. His career was cut short due to injury when he lost a shoe during a morning workout and fractured both sesamoid bones in his near front leg.
He entered stud in 1961 at Hagyard Farm, where he went on to sire 178 offspring, 43 Stakes winners, 6 Champions, 3 Classic winners, including the likes of Hail to All, Trillion, Roberto, Halo, Bold Reason, Personality, and Clarion. An influential sire in thoroughbred racing history until 1975. The following year, he was humanely euthanized at age 18 and is buried at Hagyard Farm in Lexington, Kentucky.
