Haley Schaufeld Ends Devon Horse Show With Win Aboard Ana Sia

June 1^st, 2013 – As the Devon Horse Show approaches an end A/O’s gathered on the grounds on Saturday to showcase their talents in front of the judges. Hunters took to the rings during the day, but the real attention grabbers were the Amateur-Owner jumpers that took over the Dixon Oval in the evening for the $20,000 Amateur-Owner Show Jumping Hall of Fame Classic. Among the class, rider Haley Schaufeld had the winning ride aboard her 12-year-old Zangersheide mare, Ana Sia.

Going clear in the first round with a time of 73.495s the pair later dominated the jump-off field of 3 with another clear round and a time of 51.943s. The amateur rider was 1 of 23 entries that participated in the classic and her performance is a notable victory.

As her first major win in the jumpers Schaufeld admitted to being a bit nervous to answer questions, but was nothing short of sweet and gladly said, of her jump-off round, “I just tried really hard to go clear… I tried to make her wait at the verticals a little bit, go forward to the oxers, and take wide turns so she had enough time to look at all the jumps.”

When asked about Ana Sia, the 24-year-old rider was all smiles, “I got her a year and a half ago and she’s been amazing since day one.” Schaufeld also explained the mare goes around much like an equitation horse, adding, “no matter how I rode her she probably would have helped me out… I really can’t say anything else about her. She’s perfect.”

The Leesburg, VA., native rides under the instruction of Ben Meredith and is quite the accomplished equestrian. She and Ana Sia currently rank 15^th under USEF’s Amateur-Owner Jumper standings and 94^th under USEF’s Low Amateur-Owner Jumper standings. Additionally, Schaufeld holds the 109^th spot under USEF’s Leading Jumper Owner’s – Keep up the great work, Haley!
