The 79th Prince of Wales Stakes is a 1 3/16 mile race that serves as the second jewel of the Canadian Triple Crown of horse racing. Run at Fort Erie Racetrack in Ontario, Canada, it is run three weeks following the Queen’s Plate and is open to 3-year-old colts and fillies foaled in Canada. With Queen’s Plate winner Lexie Lou sitting this one out, there won’t be a Triple Crown for Canada this year. Instead, Tuesday, July 29th, will see four 2014 Queen’s Plate graduates join six other contenders in the starting gate, eager to take their shot at winning the jewel and going home with a generous share of the $500,000 purse.
